Plasma oxysterols: Altered level of plasma 24-hydroxycholesterol in patients with bipolar disorder

چکیده
Cholesterol and its oxygenated metabolites, including oxysterols, are intensively investigated as potential players in the pathophysiology of brain disorders. Altered oxysterol levels have been described patients with numerous neuropsychiatric Recent studies shown that Bipolar disorder (BD) is associated disruption cholesterol metabolism. The present study was aimed at investigating profile oxysterols plasma, their ratio to total association clinical parameters BD. Thirty three men diagnosed BD forty healthy controls matched for age sex were included study. Oxysterol measured by isotope-dilution ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Significantly higher observed cholestane-3?,5?,6?-triol, 27-hydroxycholesterol (27?OHC) Cholestanol concentration 24-hydroxycholesterol (24?OHC) significantly lower compared controls. 24?OHC also negatively correlated MAS subscale score (r =-0.343; p = 0.049). In patients, inversely -0.240; 0.045). Multivariate analysis found acute decompensation independently related rise plasma (p 0.002; OR 0.966, 95 % CI [0.945 – 0.987]). However, assay relevance a biomarker this disease deserves further investigation other studies.

Plasma level of trace elements in patients with oral lichen planus
Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a common inflammatory disease of unknown origins. Recent studies have considered nutritional factors concerning the pathogenesis of many autoimmune disorders. The objective of the present study was to investigate the plasma levels of magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), and iron (Fe) in this disorder. Methods: Included in this observation...
متن کاملAltered plasma marker of oxidative DNA damage and total antioxidant capacity in patients with Alzheimer\'s disease
Background: Recent studies have shown that oxidative stress (OS) is the most important indicator in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the results in previous studies are conflicting. This study aimed to assess the plasma levels of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) as DNA oxidative damage marker and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in patients with AD versus control group. ...

متن کاملDecreased levels of plasma glutamate in patients with first-episode schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
A variety of studies have suggested that glutamatergic neurotransmission is altered in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Here, we tested if plasma glutamate levels are altered in 56 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or non-specified psychosis at the first psychotic episode and at various stages during one-year follow-up. A decrease in the levels of plasma glutamate was o...
